Colorful surf hostel with charm on the north coast of Gran Canaria

The small former fishing village of San Felipe is located in the very north of Gran Canaria. Situated between the wave-rich coast and banana plantations, you can expect a relaxed atmosphere far away from the city noise of the capital. The promenade invites you to stroll in the evening and the numerous restaurants tempt you with Canarian dishes.

The best way to explore the surrounding area is definitely on foot. Directly behind the surf camp is the Valerón Gorge, which is one of the most popular climbing spots on the island. The Cenobio del Valerón is located above the gorge. The caves provide an insight into the history of the Canarian indigenous population and are one of the most important archaeological sites in Gran Canaria.

Do you like cheese? Then the nearby cheese store is definitely worth a visit. The blossom cheese from Santa Maria de Guia (reachable in around 15 minutes by car or bus) is world award-winning, homemade and exclusive. For nature lovers, we recommend a trip to the Parque Natural de Doramas. It consists of the two zones Tilos de Moya and the Barranco de Azuaje. If you follow the Barranco de Moya upwards, you will reach Los Tilos de Moya after a while, where a short circular hiking trail and information trail provide an insight into the special vegetation of the protected area.

If you want to see a real jungle, you should not miss the Barranco de Azuaje: The Firgas route is a relatively easy circular walk. However, you should expect to get your feet wet and do some light climbing! It is definitely advisable to hire a car to be able to visit remote places, such as the west coast with the Tamadaba Nature Park and the steep cliffs along which the road to La Aldea de San Nicolás winds. Further inland on the island, you will always find idyllic villages that invite you to make a stopover.

If you want to work on your beach figure after your surf lessons, there are two outdoor gyms, one of which is just a five-minute walk from the hostel on the beach promenade.
