Morocco is basically known for its endless right-hand point break waves. That's exactly what you'll find in Taghazout and Tamraght and makes it a true wave paradise, especially for regulars.
Below you will find an overview of our favourite surf spots around Taghazout and Tamraght. The good news for you is that if you decide to go to a surf camp, you don't have to worry too much, as the experienced surf instructors will always take you to the best surf spot of the day.
If you're wondering what the classic Moroccan right-hand point break looks like, a visit to Anchor Point is all you need. It is the most famous wave around Taghazout and Tamraght and the epitome of the Moroccan point break. Look forward to long right-hand waves that invite you to string one turn after another. In winter, the waves here are usually big and powerful, and there is always a lot going on in the water. Anchor Point is only suitable for intermediate and advanced surfers.
As the name suggests, Hash Point is a relaxed wave. It is easy to get into from the beach and the wave breaks gently over sand, making it ideal for beginners. The waves here are also usually smaller than at the surrounding surf spots, such as Anchor Point. Hash Point is the perfect spot to learn to surf or improve your technique.
Panorama is another right-hand point break that breaks over sand and, depending on the tide, offers the right wave for all surfing levels. At low tide, you can expect fast and steep waves that barrel repeatedly on good days. As soon as the water rises and the tide comes in, the waves become gentler and slower, making them ideal for beginners and intermediates. Panorama is also often less crowded than other well-known surf spots in Taghazout and Tamraght.
Banana Point is just a few minutes' walk from Tamraght and owes its name to the surrounding banana plantations. The wave itself is an eternally long right-hand wave that breaks over sand and rocks. Even when the swell is big, it is still very gentle, making it popular with longboarders. At the same time, Banana Point is perfect for beginners and advanced surfers. Here you can learn to surf and work on your turns.
No need to panic: the name Killer Point does not come from the wave itself, but from the orcas, also known as killer whales, that frequently visit here. Nevertheless, the wave itself should not be underestimated. Killer Point attracts enormous swells and awaits you with steep, fast waves, including barrel sections. At high tide, you have to paddle a good twenty minutes to get to the peak – perfect for sharing the line-up with just a few other surfers. At low tide, you can walk almost all the way to the peak. Killer Point is not for beginners and should be left to intermediate and advanced surfers.
Another scary name, but the wave is perfect for beginners. Devil's Rock is a classic beach break with right- and left-hand waves that break gently over sand. A typical wave that everyone can enjoy – especially if you're trying green waves for the first time. Located just off Tamraght, Devil's Rock is a popular option at our surf camps.
All these surf spots are located directly on the short stretch of coastline in front of Taghazout and Tamraght – and that's just a selection. This shows why the region is considered the absolute surfing mecca in Morocco and is definitely worth a visit.
Whether you want to learn to surf or ride Morocco's perfect right-hand waves, Taghazout and Tamraght offer perfect waves for all surfing levels and almost every desire.
